This paper presents an analysis of Lunyala metaphors used in HIV/AIDS
discourse. This comes after the fact that among the Abanyala people, metaphors
tend to be all over. Among the Abanyala people metaphors play a key role in
passing information on HIV/AIDS. The paper adopted a descriptive study design.
The target population was composed of both male and female Lunyala speakers of aged between 18-60 years. Purposive sampling
was applied in the study. Data was collected through use of questionnaires and
informal interviews. The paper was based on critical discourse analysis by
(Flairclough 1992). It was found that the understanding and the interpretation
of the Lunyala metaphors on HIV/AIDS were greatly dependent on the context. The
study reveals that HIV/AIDS metaphors being used reveal the attitude of the
speakers towards the disease.
Keywords: metaphor, critical discourse analyses.
